About this place
Start with a bowl that puts the broth first. Sakaide Udon serves kake udon, kitsune udon and egg-drop udon, among other choices built around noodles and broth. Visitors have praised the flavour of the kelp stock and the slightly thin, soft noodles made in the restaurant; one said the broth was so good they wanted to drink every last drop. There are also reports of watching the noodles being cut from the counter, adding a glimpse of the craft to the meal.
For a more substantial meal, consider a set with seasoned rice. A diner who ordered the meat udon set said it came with seasoned rice and pickles, describing the rice as well-flavoured yet gentle in taste. Another visitor also enjoyed the seasoned rice in the set and wrote that they often stop by for lunch, pairing it with kake udon.
There are plenty of bowls with toppings, too, including meat udon, herring soba and tempura soba. One diner appreciated the restrained seasoning of the meat in the meat udon, which let the broth stand out. A visitor to the herring soba noted the herring's sweetness, making it one to consider when you fancy hot soba. Curry udon and nabeyaki udon are also on the menu, offering a different style from a simple kake udon.
Sakaide Udon in Tengachaya serves soba as well as udon. You can eat in or order takeaway. Payment is cash only, so come prepared.
